The journey through SL was a quick one for me. I was always fascinated by technology (although fearful of the WYSIWYG at first, I eventually learned to love the Mac and function fluently on the PC.) Chat rooms fascinated me, and when I saw the initial stages of avatar chatting on the web, I was intrigued but largely non-plussed by the overall lack of real texture. My thought was basically 'why can't this be a 3-D environment?'
I tried my hand at learning VRML after learning HTML, but found the VRML to be pretty difficult. Sooooo.... fast forward, long story short, etc. and I bumped into the MUVEs of Active Worlds and SL. Pure gravy! Except that Active Worlds wasn't cross-platform compatible, and SL was, and so SL won me over for the interactive element of moving forward. :)
